Logistics support systems
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) system for remote monitoring and tracking of supplies, designed for identification of persons or objects using electronic elements (identifiers).
The system has been implemented in Polish Armed Forces to fulfill the need of management of supply chain of goods and equipment in the process of logistic supply for the military.
The technology, using the possibility of remote and contactless readout of vast amount of data, allows prompt and reliable identification of any element as well as control of its status and position in the logistic chain system.
The system comprises of the following elements:
- RFID identifier
- RFID reader
- Software
- Data server
Application of RFID system
The system may be widely installed on cargoes, at seaports, at airports.
Allows the following:
- Marking and identification of supplies, monitoring of consignments,
- Remote management of warehouse stock level in order to optimize costs and reduce material stock level,
- Management of warehouse orders (receiving and dispatch of goods, internal warehouse arrangement, stocktaking),
- Optimizing of management and ensuring availability of the most sought-after commodities (elimination of shortages in the warehouse),
- Monitoring of objects on production line,
- Tracking objects in supply chain,
- Identification of persons and vehicles.
Advantages of RFID system
- Reading of data takes place without necessity of direct visibility of the tag, and this distinguishes the system from, for example, bar codes,
- RFID reader records the data received from the tag placed inside collective casing,
- System provides data encoding, hence guarantees its safety,
- RFID reader can simultaneously record data from many tags,
- Casing does not prevent recording and reading – tags may be placed on products inside cartons or any other type of container,
- RFID tags work under extreme conditions, for example, high level of dirt, high humidity, under very low or very high temperatures,
- Use of RFID eliminates errors and minimizes labor input while collecting data,
- Read data is directly sent to central server, hence providing full supervision of flow of goods.
The system was implemented in 54 military units in Poland.
